Microneedling, or Collagen Induction Therapy, is an in-office procedure which can improve fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, skin laxity, as well as traumatic and surgical scarring. It works by superficially damaging the skin to trigger regeneration and collagen and elastin production without causing scarring. As a result, skin texture, tone, and color are all improved resulting in rejuvenated skin. Microneedling can be performed to all areas of the face and body and is safe for all skin types. At the time of your consultation, Dr. Li will analyze your face and skin in detail and discuss whether Microneedling is a good option for you.
Microneedling is usually well-tolerated with only a mild prickling sensation, depending on the areas being treated (e.g. face may be more sensitive) and depth of treatment. The depth of treatment is adjusted by Dr. Li based on the thickness of your skin and the area being treated. Whereas most patients will notice an improvement even after 1 treatment, a series of 3-6 treatments, spaced 1 month apart, is usually recommended for the best effect.

The nose can be a tough area to treat. Similar to the forehead, a good portion of the treatment zone is directly against the bone, which could possibly be uncomfortable for the patient if the proper topical numbing agent isn't selected. Extra care needs to be taken when working directly on the bridge of the nose.

Small circular passes are often used as well as linear passes when treating the upper lip, lower lip lines, and nasal area, as well as the nasal labial folds. This small circular motion helps to diffuse any discomfort that the patient might be feeling, if ANY. If the proper topical numbing agent is applied, most patients report a pain level of 1 - 2, or 3 - 4 at most on a scale of 1 - 10. In MANY cases HOWEVER, comments of a 0 - 1 is the most common answer.

WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE TREATMENT
Ideally, come to your consultation with any facial creams or make-up as this will need to be wiped off before treatment
Arrive earlier than your appointment time to have topical anesthetic placed on your treatment areas
Bring music or something to read while you wait for the topical anesthetic to take effect
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT
There will be redness, bruising, swelling, and skin flaking at the site of treatment, which can last for approximately a week
Although you may notice results sooner, it can sometimes take 4 weeks to notice skin changes
Use the post-care kit after Microneedling; it contains care instructions and the creams to use
Do not engage in high-intensity exercise for 12 hours post-treatment
Avoid high-intensity or prolonged exposure to sunlight post-treatment to avoid hyperpigmentation
