Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) Q & A

What is blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)?

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a procedure in which Dr. Li rejuvenates your upper and lower eyelids and makes them and makes them more aesthetically pleasing by removing excess skin, fat and muscle. Sometimes droopy or loose eyelids need to be fixed as well. Procedures can be minimally invasive yet have powerful results.

What are the benefits of blepharoplasty?

Some of the many benefits you can expect after undergoing blepharoplasty at CA Aesthetics include:

  • Smoother and lifted eyelids
  • Younger-looking eyes
  • Less eyelid drooping
  • Fewer bags under your eyes
  • Improved vision

Blepharoplasty procedures can be simple, fast, and painless with little downtime. However, you can expect dramatic anti-aging results.
Is blepharoplasty right for me?

To find out if you’re a candidate for blepharoplasty at CA Aesthetics, Dr. Li reviews your medical history, tests your vision, examines your eyelids, and discusses your desired outcome. He personalizes each treatment to give you the best results. In some cases, this means combining blepharoplasty with another aesthetic treatment, such as brow lift

How should I prepare for my surgery?

To prepare for eyelid surgery at CA Aesthetics, stop taking certain medications as directed by Dr. Li, and do not smoke. Arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure and stay with you during the night.

What should I expect during the procedure?

During the first step of blepharoplasty, Dr. Li numbs your eyelids so that you don’t feel any pain. He then makes incisions in your eyelids in hidden areas, before doing more surgery on the inside to adjust the tissues. The eyelid incisions are then closed, and antibiotic ointment is applied to the treatment area. Sometimes, blepharoplasty can be combined with other aesthetic facial surgeries, such as brow lift or facelift, to give you the best results.

What happens after blepharoplasty?

After blepharoplasty, you relax in a recovery room for a while. You go home the same day after surgery. Temporary post-surgery side effects might include:

  • Watery eyes
  • Blurry vision
  • Double vision
  • Light sensitivity
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Tenderness
  • Bruising

Follow all post-surgery instructions. Apply cold compresses to your eyes, keep your eyelids clean, and use ointment or eye drops as directed. Avoid strenuous activities, some medications, and wearing contact lenses until Dr. Li says it’s OK.

Wear sunglasses to protect your eyelids from the sun, and sleep with your head elevated for a few days. If necessary, return to Dr. Li’s office to have stitches removed.

You do not have to live with eyelids that make you look older or affect your vision. Call the CA Aesthetics office to schedule an appointment.
